We originally posted this solution back in 2013. These changes are needed now more than ever:
1. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
2. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay or any other benefits when they’ve completed their term in office.
3. Congress loses their current taxpayer paid health care insurance during and after tenure and must purchase their own health care insurance by the same laws and rules as the American people.
4. Members of Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
6. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
7. Congressmen & congresswomen will not be paid for their term if they do not have a balanced budget for the congress and country that effectively pays down our debt.
8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/31/15. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.
If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Don’t you think it’s time?

Why hasn’t this been followed since it is not a new idea- you can google back and see the same idea proposed for at least 7 years. What will make congress hear their people?
I Like this . Its about time . there also should be a law to keep congress out of my retirement
money . That the people money not a piggy bank for congress . They should have to pay
back the more then three trillion dollars they have stolen from Social Security .
How do suggest we go about getting this passed?
We should all contact our legislators in both houses to start with. Then, likely, we should organize a march on Washington for media attention and effect.
They also need term limits. The others items mentioned should have been passed years ago.
